Description
Reading Recovery is a short-term, early intervention programme designed to help Year 1 children who are struggling with reading and writing catch up with their peers. Delivered by specially trained teachers, the programme provides daily, one-to-one lessons tailored to each child’s specific needs. Over a period of 12 to 20 weeks, children receive intensive, individualised instruction that focuses on developing phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and writing skills. Lessons are based on detailed assessment and close observation, allowing teaching to be highly responsive and targeted. The goal is to accelerate progress so that children can read and write at age-appropriate levels and continue learning successfully with classroom peers. Reading Recovery has a strong evidence base and has been shown to significantly reduce the number of children requiring long-term literacy support. It is ideal for schools committed to early intervention and improving outcomes for their most vulnerable learners in the early stages of education.
Why should I attend?
A qualified teacher with QTS should attend Reading Recovery training to gain the specialised skills and knowledge needed to make a transformative impact on children who are struggling with early literacy. The programme equips teachers with a deep understanding of how children learn to read and write, and how to deliver highly effective, one-to-one interventions that accelerate progress. Through expert training, teachers learn to use precise assessment tools, tailor instruction to individual needs, and apply responsive teaching techniques that promote rapid improvement. Attending also enhances a teacher’s wider literacy practice, which benefits all learners, not just those in intervention. Reading Recovery is proven to significantly reduce the need for long-term support and helps close attainment gaps early. Teachers become literacy leaders within their schools, supporting a culture of early intervention and inclusion. This training is ideal for those committed to raising standards in reading and giving every child the opportunity to succeed.
